Movember

You may have heard that Movember is the new November and is the month dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancers that affect men.

Basically Men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.

Last year saw one million donors raise £26 million and the funds raised through the UK Movember campaign, raises money for The Prostate Cancer Charity (TPCC) – the UK’s leading Prostate Cancer charity. It is becoming more popular each year around the world and it seems crafty people are also getting involved.

I want to share with you my favourite Movember finds:

Mia Webb Photography

Mia is a female photographer who is going to the extremes of creating a new moustache image of herself everyday. Mia Webb has already posed as Charlie Chaplin and Super Mario and her MoSpace page is definitely worth regularly checking out throughout the month – Mia Webb Mo Space

Stars & Scars – Moustache Necklace

This jewellery designer has made a fab selection of Moustache Necklaces in different styles of Tash. £1 from the sale of each moustache goes to the Movember Foundation in aid of Prostate Cancer too. The men can grow them but with this design, the women can wear them in support.

Wife of Brian – Crochet Moustache iPhone Holder

Wife of Brian creates designs for all your knitted facial hair needs. For the month of Movember, this designer will be donating 2% of her sales to The Prostate Cancer Charity. These are great unisex presents that whilst raising money are protection for your iPhone too.

Rescued Rags – Moustache Pin Badge

Want to support the Movember cause but lack the necessary Y chromosome to grow your own mo? Need a handy disguise?
Then you need a moustache badge that Dali himself would be proud to wear! Each moustache is hand stitched from felt with a securely attached badge fastening. £1 from each sale will go to the Movember prostate cancer charity appeal.

For those of you new to Movember, I hope I have Motivated you to support this worthy cause and changing the face of men’s health.

If you would like to donate to this charity and would like to support someone who is growing a tache for Movember you can always sponsor my husband who is taking part for his second year (a cheeky little plug). He finds growing one hard but it is definitely coming on nicely. – Rick Bromley Mo Space

Thanks and happy Movember

Pierrine Follow Friday – Week 11: Halloween Theme

Pierrine’s Follow Friday is normally when I pick a few of my fav followers on Twitter from @PierrineJewels and then mention them in a tweet and here on Pierrine’s Blog, but I started something different on Week 7 which had a good response using a theme.

This week I have chosen a HALLOWEEN THEME.
This is for several reasons: Halloween will soon be upon us and I don’t normally get into the whole spirit but I am trying a bit harder this year. I also write a blog for The Best of Guernsey and recently posted a blog on Pumpkin Carving Tips which has got me in the mood and feeling a little bit orange (well more than usual as I am ginger!). Hope these inspire you to decorate your garden, fireplace, party venue etc.

Not all the Folksy Folk are on twitter and therefore I have linked directly to some of them on Folksy.

Cranberry Charms – Mini Pumpkin Wreath

This really gorgeous rustic country wreath consists of mini pumpkins and bay leaves. It is finished with jute string to hang and a homespun bow. This will look stunning placed on a front door welcoming your guests or trick or treaters.

Diomo Glass – Halloween Spiders

Several of these dark brown/black glass nugget Halloween spiders dotted around your house will really bring an atmosphere. They enjoy sitting around and need minimal care!

Silver Birch Crafts – Happy Halloween Bunting

This bunting will make any room more spooky and really bring halloween inside. Alternatively this could be used to decorate a door way to welcome any visitors to your door!

Mud Meddling – Hanging Ghostly Decorations

Halloween just isn’t Halloween without some ghosts. I love these cute and spooky clay hanging ghost decorations. These dinky little Halloween ghost ornaments are the perfect addition to your spooky decorations, or to give as a quirky little gift.

Janine Basil – Cobweb Hat with Glitter and Hanging Spider

Stunning hat to wear to that special Halloween party. You will be the talk of the party with this fun, glittery cobweb and spider on a black straw base, held on with a comb.

Well enjoy all the Halloween celebrations and if you can’t be nice, be naughty!

Pierrine Follow Friday – Week 10: Star Theme

Pierrine’s Follow Friday is normally when I pick a few of my fav followers on Twitter from @PierrineJewels and then mention them in a tweet and here on Pierrine’s Blog, but I started something different on Week 7 which had a good response using a theme.

This week I have chosen a STAR THEME.
This is for several reasons: I love stars and you can’t beat a clear sky at night and staring up at the stars and looking for the saucepan. Also my husband is due to be taking part in a Specsavers Reach for a Star Grand Gala Final on September 4th so I felt a star theme would be appropriate and hopefully it will bring him a bit of good luck.

Not all the Folksy Folk are on twitter and therefore I have linked directly to some of them on Folksy.

Crafty Pagan Designs – Primitive Wooden Star Hanging Ornament

This wooden handing ornament has a shabby chic feel to it and can be used for a variety of occasions including Christmas tree decorations, door hanger, bed post decoration or wedding favours/decorations. The artist creates beautifully hand-stamped art from the highest quality of materials.

Lilley Shop – Six Rainbow Star Buttons

I love these six buttons made from polymer clay in bright rainbow colours. These will definitely brighten up any garment. Vicki is a sweetie crafting, ninja making, button creator.

Quite Contrary Crafts – Your Star Hand Cut Greeting Card

Love this unique hand cut card in bright yellow, perfect for celebrating someone being a star, amazing, congratulating them or simply just showing you care. Quite Contrary Crafts can do personalised wedding stationery to make your wedding stand out!

This quality handmade blue ticking envelope cushion with hand applique linen centre panel with hand applique star is topped with a mini blue star button. Individual and unique designs including cushions, pen bags, bunting and more using 100% cotton or linen.

Well enjoy star-gazing over the rest of the summer!

Pierrine Follow Friday – Week 9: Wedding Theme

Pierrine’s Follow Friday is normally when I pick a few of my fav followers on Twitter from @PierrineJewels and then mention them in a tweet and here on Pierrine’s Blog, but I started something different on Week 7 which had a good response using a theme.

This week I have chosen a WEDDING THEME.
This is for several reasons: One being that it is at this time of year when weddings are taking place all over the world, another being that it is my 2nd wedding anniversary coming up next month and I am therefore thinking about what this means to me, another being that I am attending a dear friend’s wedding next week and finally, I have just finished Pierrine’s first wedding commission.

Not all the Folksy Folk are on twitter and therefore I have linked directly to some of them on Folksy.

Debbie Carlisle Vintage Jewellery Wedding Bouquets – Vintage Button Pomander Bouquet

I chose lavender pomanders as bouquets for my bridesmaids to bring in a twist to the traditional wedding bouquets. These pomander bouquets take ‘traditional’ one step further using vintage buttons. Perfect for a vintage style wedding.

Heartfelt Handmade – Mr & Mrs Banner

These banners can be personalised for your wedding day or simply say ‘Mr & Mrs’ and I think every wedding has room for a felt banner. I also love the brightness of the colours used generally in all the designs.

Bread and Butter by Bev Jennings – Ceramic Wedding Favours

Heart shaped ceramic wedding favours which can be personalised to have the couple’s initials, the date of the wedding or even the guests’ initials. I love the soft tones in these ceramic hearts and feel these make unique wedding favours for the guests as a memory of a special day.

Jo Sweeting – Handcarved Love Pebble

My wedding gift to my husband was our initials and our wedding date carved into a heart shaped stone picked up during a walk we had together on a nearby beach to our home. I placed it on the top table in front of our place settings. I wanted to give him something with a lot of meaning to us and something that would last forever. These handcarved pebbles can be personalised for weddings.

Well I hope that has got you all in the mood for a summer of love!

Pierrine Follow Friday – Week 8

Pierrine’s Follow Friday is normally when I pick a few of my fav followers on Twitter from @PierrineJewels and then mention them in a tweet and here on Pierrine’s Blog, but I started something different on Week 7 which had a good response using a theme.

It was National Bike Week from 19th – 27th June and as part of my part-time job as a Blogger for The Best of Guernsey website, I set myself the challenge of swapping my car for my bike for the week to get to work, the gym, the shops, see friends etc and see how I get on and report back my experiences.

So what happened?

Well you can read my blog post to see how I got on but as cycling took over my life last week I thought this week’s Pierrine Follow Friday would have a CYCLING THEME. Not all the Folksy Folk are on twitter and therefore this week I have linked directly to some of them on Folksy.

@teasemade – Bicycle Ring

Pierrine Follow Friday – Week 7

Pierrine’s Follow Friday is normally when I pick a few of my fav followers on Twitter from @PierrineJewels and then mention them in a tweet and here on Pierrine’s Blog, but this week I thought I would do something a little different.

I really cannot ignore the FOOTBALL FEVER that is spreading worldwide and cannot help finding myself a little bit whooped up in the frenzy of the world cup, if only for a month or so every four years!

As the first England game approached last weekend, I couldn’t help but notice the influx of Union Jack flags and the colours of red, white and blue around so thought this week’s Pierrine Follow Friday would have a WORLD CUP THEME. Not all the Folksy Folk are on twitter and therefore this week I have linked directly to some of them on Folksy.

@worldcup – live tweets about each world cup match and live tweets direct from @FIFAcom

Wife of Brian – Knitted Loopy England Beard

Loving this, I can just see someone wearing this at home in the lounge whilst watching an England game trying to drink their can of beer through it.

2 Green Monkeys – Handmade World Cup Football Party Trivia Cookies

Ingenious idea and something fun for all those football parties being held across the nation.

SLC – England World Cup Cupcake / Muffin Wrappers

Another great idea to bring that girly touch to the football parties.

Made with Love X – World Cup Bunting

Got to love a bit of bunting and can decorate a lounge or garden party during the world cup

Polka Dot Handmade Goods – Baby Gro for England Supporters

You can have England supporters however young they are!

Come on England!

Pierrine Follow Friday – Week 6

Pierrine’s Follow Friday on Twitter from @PierrineJewels means each Friday I will pick a few of my fav followers and them mention them in a tweet and here on Pierrine’s Blog. So I am therefore delighted to announce that my mentions are for:

@CharisNameArt – Eye-catching personalised designs that incorporate names and words. Products include canvases, prints, t-shirts, placemats, plaques & cards.

@countryvintage – Lewis Designs: Beautiful unique journals hand-made from a mixture of vintage textiles and modern fabrics, old vintage lace, embellished with hand embroidery and old mother of pearl buttons.

@JoTheBiscuitBox – Beautifully iced super chocolaty biscuits handmade in Guernsey for all occasions. Great for corporate gifts, wedding favours and parties!

@Joheckett – Gorgeous porcelain goodies and handmade gifts including letter fridge magnets, wedding favours, Christmas decorations and jewellery all in her signature soft and glossy colours.
